Cycle paths light up when you approach. Cameras detect accidents and emergency services. Your car advises you where it’s best to park, your telephone instructs your apartment to turn on the heating as you drive home. The possibilities seem endless. But we would like to hear from you. The iCity Tender is looking for strong ideas to make cities smarter, starting with Strijp‑S.
Strijp‑S is the ‘living lab’ to test these products and services. The area functions as a ‘launch market’ for developing ideas into scalable and achievable solutions that can also be utilised in other cities. Our smart city comprises three layers. All data and online traffic is in the ‘cloud layer’. Analysis, communication and content development take place here. The next layer is the ‘liveable layer’: the tangible part of the city. The streets you walk in and the door knob you turn. Finally, there is the ‘infrastructure layer’: roads, railways, pipes and fibre glass cables. The interaction between these layers makes the city ‘smart’. The layers communicate with each other and work together. This creates crossovers and integration. The result? A more efficient and sustainable city with opportunities for innovation.
